Bioethics Week - February 12-18, 2001

PHEN, together with the UofA's John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre, the UofC's Office of Medical Bioethics, the Redemptorist Bioethics Consultancy and St. Joseph's College Ethics Centre, would like to encourage all Albertans to participate in the first ever Bioethics Week, to be held throughout Alberta over February 12-18, 2001.

Bioethics week has been designed to meet three primary objectives:

• to emphasize the importance of examining the values underpinning the health system
• to facilitate the health ethics education of various stakeholders in the system, from members of the community to institution staff, and
• to provide greater visibility for bioethics committees and bioethics issues across the province.

During this week, organizations throughout the province will be invited to participate by hosting or sponsoring an ethics activity.

In order to assist organizations such as yours in planning a successful event, PHEN has created a Bioethics Week Activity Guide. This resource offers a wide array of ideas for events, tips & checklists for planning and publicity, as well as detailed information on the resources you may need in planning an activity. The Activity Guide will be available in early October

With your help, Feb 12-18 promises to be an exciting and groundbreaking week in the promotion of Bioethics in Alberta.
